Numerical models, in conjunction with the observations from the NYS Mesonet, were used to study local weather and air quality phenomena in NY state.

Aerosol detection, monitoring, and trajectories in NY

A real-time aerosol forecast and analysis system for NYS (IDEA-NYS) was deployed, resulting from the adoption of IDEA (Infusing satellite Data into Environmental Applications) air quality forecasting system from NOAA/NESDIS and the utilization of aerosol measurements from satellites sensors.

Improving high impact weather forecasts

Numerical experiments were conducted to investigate the impact of assimilating New York State Mesonet (NYSM) surface and profiler observations on the predictability of severe weather events in New York.

Regional Wx-AQ forecast system

A limited-area Wx-AQ forecast system, based on WRF-Chem, is used for 1) near-real-time air quality forecasting in NYS and 2) retro episode analysis and compliance assessment.
