Weather and air quality

Numerical models, in conjunction with multi-platform observations, were used to study local weather and air quality phenomena in NY state.

Wildfire smoke plumes

Long-range transport of smoke aerosols and their impacts on local air quality were investigated using satellite measurements, ground-based networks, and model products. Machine learning algorithms were applied to characterize key contributors to surface PM concentrations.

Aerosol-weather interaction

Numerical experiments were conducted to understand the impact of aerosol-radiation-cloud interaction on medium-range weather forecasts as well as to characterize the impact of aerosol transmittance effects on satellite infrared radiance data assimilation.
