IDEA-NYS

Model descriptions

IDEA (Infusing satellite Data into Environmental Applications) is developed through NASA-EPA-NOAA partnership to improve air quality assessment, management, and predictions (Al-Saadi et al., 2005). This satellite-based system produces daily aerosol forecast products from a synthesis of information on particulate matter at surface, assimilated and forecast winds, satellite-inferred wildfire locations, and air parcel trajectories. Funded by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) under grant number 100417, we ported IDEA as a real-time aerosol detection, monitoring, and trajectory tool for NYS.

Real-time aerosol detection and monitoring

Daily forecasts from the IDEA-NYS system and the Wx-AQ forecast system, in conjunction with satellite and surface observations over NYS, are displayed in ASRC AQ dashboard

Dual resolution system

The dual resolution system provides detailed information on aerosol loading in the NYS region as well as information on long-range aerosol transport reaching the NY area.
